so im building a new computer and have gone back and forth on graphics cards for quite a while.

i was going to get a 1060 now, then in two years or so when it maybe cant handle the games, id get another 1060 and run them SLI.
however, the 1060 cannot run in SLI...

so now i need to decide whether to spend the extra money to get a 1070 now, then in three years or so get another one and run them in SLI.

the third kind of option im considering is to save money now, get a mother board that doesnt have SLI, then just get a 1060, then in two years or so, get a brad new graphics card entirely...

i am completely at lose right now though, so if anyone could help me figure out what the best option would be in their opinion, that would be great. thanks!

PS, I don't know if this matters at all, but i also read that apparently the nest generation of graphics cards wont support SLI at all... so idk, if that has any weight to

Solution
If you want to "future proof" your system, get the GTX 1070 or 1080. The 1060 is a mid-range card now (although still fast), never mind in a few years.
The thing with the 1060 is that in 2 years or so, there will be a 1260 for the same price, that would be as good as or better than 2x 1060s in SLI. Single GPUs are the best way to go. Dual GPUs aren't as efficient and end with wasted money and resources when compared to single, more powerful GPUs.

ok, so what mother board would you recommend then? someone else from another post said that you should get a decent motherboard if you are planning on overclocking the intel i5-6600K so im kind of lost here too...

if it matters, my list here: https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/VLQvd6

For gaming in 1080p the GTX 1060 6GB is a excellent choice and for futureprrof its fine as long Sony and Microsoft doesnt release a PS5 and a new Xbox you would be fine because game developer's cant higher the minimal system requirement for game's. But if you consider to game in 1440p you better go with the GTX 1070. I think the next gen Nvidia GPU's will land in 2018.

(Edit: You can also go for a RX 480 8GB and upgrade later to a crossfire config.)

Your setup is kind of overpriced.

I agree with this. That's why I bought a 1070 for my 1440p 144Hz G-Sync monitor. The 1070 keeps me above 60 FPS in AAA games and I am able to take advantage of the high refresh rates in competitive games I play like Rocket League, Overwatch, and Heroes of the Storm.

I could have bought a 1080 and had higher framerates in AAA games but I would rather go with a more modest option and upgrade more frequently than go for the high end and try to make it last. You get a much better price to performance ratio doing it that way.
