Hello,

Samsung Magician (newest version) stated that AHCI was deactivated so i tried a couple of things to undo that. These things included:

- switching my Samsung 840 evo from a Sata 3G Port on the mainboard to an actual 6G port
- making sure Sata-mode AHCI was activated in bios (it already was)
- doing the registry tweaks for Windows 10 users who want to activate AHCI after windows 10 installation

nothing changed in samsung magician. it still said ahci was deactivated. Also, i didnt notice windows 10 installing any new ahci drivers after rebooting.

Also, i tried booting into safe mode, then i rebootet. Samsung magician still displays my ssd as having AHCI deactivated.

So i just left things be and installed paragon HFS+ because i needed to access an external mac hdd in a different matter. Suddenly my system kept showing the "unaccessible boot device"-BSOD and restarted. It took me a few tries before these BSOD repair processes actually worked and i was able to boot normally again.

Anyone got an idea whats going on?

Solution
Are you sure you did the AHCI registry change correctly. Many have had this problem and upon reboot the system will install the correct drivers.
Why it did not take would be anybody's guess but it may be the drive as you have followed correct procedure.
If not try clearing your CMOS and check again.
My Samsung reports AHCI mode and I followed the same procedure by activating AHCI in Bios. Have never had to do the registry hack but I know it works.

2 more observations:
- in samsung magician the box "sata interface" states that it's "N/A"
- in Device Manager under the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers there are 4 AHCI controllers listed of which the 4th and last one has a "trouble"-icon on it.

There's a well-known bug in Samsung Magician that falsely reports AHCI is not activated when it actually is enabled. As long as you checked the BIOS and it indicates the SATA controller mode has AHCI enabled, you need not have any further concern.
