Should I upgrade my GPU or CPU first?

Just curious as christmas is coming up, I wanted to know which was worth upgrading first.

My CPU is the Amd FX-6300 overclocked to 3.7 GHz, and my GPU is GTX-960 2gb. I have 16 Gb RAM so that isn't a problem.

To upgrade both I need to by a new PSU as well, and therefore I can't afford to upgrade both at the same time, even without the PSU upgrade.

I was looking at buying either the Sapphire RX-480 4gb and the AMD-FX 8350 4.0Ghz, and I'm not sure one to get first (due to budget limitations obviously)

I usually play games like Overwatch, GTA V, No Man's Sky and Just Cause 3, and I'm looking for high FPS and high graphics, but FPS>Graphics.

Hi there,

As your CPU has less influence on the fps then the GPU I would go for a new GPU !

You can also change your HDD to an SSD to speed up up your speed ! (cost is not high: 250GB for less than 70€, 500GB for around 110€) check your local store for other currencies !

good luck,

Cheers, Louise.

I've already got an SSD on my list, but im not too worried about that right now as my computer's speed is fine. Thank's for the info I'll take it into consideration :)

I have the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO air cooler but im worried about how far I can push that thing using that CPU(or the new one) so advice on that would also be nice if possible

You will need to increase the voltage, but you should be able to get 4.2-4.4ghz with that cooler depending on your motherboard.

Asus M5A97 R2.0 ATX AM3+ Motherboard

Also, is this concerning my current or future CPU?

I don't tend to overclock GPU's but the CPU is a different story

Yeah thats fine to do some overclocking.

No point upgrading the cpu on that motherboard really, to get a significant upgrade you would need to change platform.

CPU especially because open world game is being pushed to the limit and getting a better CPU will help you get that stable FPS. If you upgrade your GPU first you might come in to bottlenecking issue's
