Hi everyone,

I've read several threads and articles about 480 8gb vs gtx 10606gb with freesync monitor but still it is still not clear for me which to choose since I really want the 1060.

This is the system i'm Planing to build:

CPU: i5 6500
PSU: seasonic eco 500w
RAM: Crucial ballistix 2133 4gb x2
Mobo: Msi h110m pro VH/VD
HDD: WD Blue 1tb
Case: deepcool tesseract

Now for the GPU, im torn between

HIS RX480 8gb roaring OC VS Zotac Gtx 1060mini 6gb. The price is almost the same.

Monitor: XG2401 144hz with freesync. (This is the cheapest 144hz monitor I can find in my place and it is really good based on the reviews.) I treat the freesync as a bonus.

Games I play:

Overwatch
Dota 2
LOL
CSGO
Some AAA titles like, (witcher 3, ROTR)

My question is, should I maximize my fps by buying the gtx 1060? for the 144hz or should I utilize the freesync included in the monitor that i bought? I really don't want to experience screen tearing and I want to hit 140 fps+ in overwatch . Will i get too much screen tearing with my build even without the Freesync? or I should be fine with the gtx build. Need your expert advices

Have you personally seen how freesync works? People say that if you are hitting enough fps for 144hz, screen tearing is almost not observable so I can go with the 1060. But is freesync really worth it?

The budget will be the same for the RX 480 build and GTX 1060 build (Im from PH). Even with the gtx build, I would pick the same monitor since It's the best for the quality and price available in my country and I want to experience 144hz.

I'm just really confused between the 2 cards and also I don't know much about screen tearing.

I use an RX 480 8GB + Freesync.

In AAA titles like The Witcher 3 and Rise of the Tomb Raider you won't be getting 144fps and and for that reason Freesync will be really useful.

In light competitive games like CS:GO or Dota Freesync will be useless, because you'll be over 144 constantly. It's past the Freesync range.

Chugalug, IDK why are you asking for my budget and also IDK why are you trying to make a list but I appreciate your initiative. But my concern is between the 2 cards and they the gtx one costs 12,500 and the rx one is 12,700. Im gonna pick the parts from easypc/dyna quest.

I see, let's see what you have to offer, here's my budget 33-35k PHP :) I would like to see an i5 6500, rx 480/gtx 1060 there. I already have my monitor btw.

RCF Prod, since im gonna play more of the light competitive games, Should i go with the gtx 1060 build for higher raw fps and smoother gameplay? since freesync will only shine in AAA titles which can make my screen tear and stutter due to FPS dipping low?

RX 480 is roughly on GTX 1060's level anyway. Overall Freesync might benefit you more than a GTX 1060 with slightly higher fps without adaptive sync.

Should have gone for the 1060 imo, would have saved you 1k and allowed m to fit in 16GB of RAM.
Still improved though.

Thank you for the list, I'll try to comare that mobo to msi h110m. I don't really see the that the parts i have chosen have a bad quality. The PSU i've picked is almost identical to that s12ii but is just 220v which is more compatible for asian markets. As for the memory, I might go for single 8gb stick for upgrading purposes but i've decided to go with dual channel since I'm only using the pc for gaming. For the gpu, I might stick the mini 6gb, or his 8gb for max fps since im going for 144 hz

Nah, the Eco isn't quite as good of a unit, the S12II is much better.
B150 is also a considerable step up from H110M.
What do you mean"the mini 6gb, or his 8gb for max fps since im going for 144 hz"
Are you referring to the 6GB 1060 mini and RX 480 8GB?
For the RX 480, 4GB is more than enough VRAM, 8GB won't give you any performance improvements.
It is also a massive price difference where you are.
I'd commit to an RX 480 since you already bought the Freesync monitor.

I guess i might add more for the s12ii, it was my first choice anyway. Yes I'm referring to those GPUs. I already researched and watched benchmarks of gtx 1060 6gb/ rx 480 8gb. They give higher FPS than the 3gb/4gb counter parts in games like overwatch/csgo. I need more frames to make use of the 144z. For aaa titles, I know that 3gb/ 4gb models will work fine and hit 60 fps+ with i5 6500. Thanks for the recommendations. It's so hard to one stop shop at this time since the stocks are currently low in dyna/easy pc. Dynaquest raised the i5 6500 price and made me lean towards easy pc. I'm just waiting for the Easy pc bacoor branch to open. I heard that they have the the largest stock inventory among the easy pc branches and will be giving away discounts.
