Hi there. I've been playing a lot of Far Cry Primal lately on a 4k display. Fantastic graphics...however, I've had this strange reoccurring issue that's unique to this specific title.

So my fps is pretty much always around 45-60+ at all times, but in some parts of the world (particularly with open spaces and a lot going on) my game seems to slow down. The fps doesn't drop, it still stays in that 45-60+ range - but everything is in slow motion, down to about 50% slower than it should be running. I've never run into this issue with any other game. Does anybody know why this is happening?

My computer is running an i5 4670k @ 4.4ghz and a gtx 1080 fe @ 2.1ghz, and the game is installed on a samsung 840 evo ssd.

Thank you, I appreciate it

If it is, as it appears, to be only Far Cry Primal having the problem ("unique to this specific title") then the next step would be to get more specific.

Google "far cry primal lagging". At least as a start. You can always refine or narrow the search words as you go along.

There seems to be quite a number of YouTube videos, links, etc., addressing the problem. However, which one or ones actually fit the details of your situation is difficult for me to determine per se. Likewise check the vendor's website: Forums and FAQs may provide other ideas or options.

My recommendation is that you watch a few of the videos and read some of the links but do not immediately react to or apply any given fix at first. Look for a concensus with...

Start up Task Manager before you play. Take a look at the various processes/services/applications that are running and what resources and levels (%) of resources are being used. Leave open in the background.

Then open the game and play. When things slow down, go back into the Task Manager Window to see what has changed.

You may end up going through the process a few times to get a sense of what "normal" is versus "slow motion".

You also might have to remove a few background programs out of startup just to help eliminate some variables as you go along.

Could be some "perfect storm" situation - e.g., some combination of software/hardware events that trigger the slow motion effect.

To my surprise, my processor is staying at 30-50% usage in windowed 3840x2160 with Far Cry Primal taking up all but roughly 1-5%. The only background applications running are MSI Afterburner, Steam, Razer Synapse, and GeForce Experience, and none seem to be influencing the speed of the game

Then try that fix. Keep notes so you can reverse if necessary.
