I am planning to buy a new processor for my PC, currently I am using an amd a8 6600k paired with a gtx 970, i know this is a bottleneck, which is why i am going to get myself a new processor, i currently have my eyes on an i5 6600k skylake. I was wondering just how much of an improvement would I see when it comes to gaming? and if you guys could maybe suggest a different cpu within the same price range, that would be great too. thanks in advance :D

The 6600k is a great choice for gaming. Just keep in mind you will need a Z170 motherboard and DDR4 memory for it as well. You will be able to overclock it with that combo too.

It will make a significant improvement in all games, and you should have no problem with max settings at 1080p in any game.

If you are buying a 6600k you want a Z170 motherboard, the whole point of getting a k processor is to be able to overclock it.

Otherwise you can get a cheaper board and get a i5-6600, i5-6500, or i5-6400. The 6500 is probably the best value for your dollar of the 3.

And while there are some DDR3 Skylake boards out there, there are very few, and it calls for DDR3L according to Intels spec. DDR4 is far more common for that as its what Intel specs for LGA 1151, and while there is no proof of it causing problems, Intel recommends against using DDR3.
