I have a gtx geforce 1060 6gb GPU and amd FX 6300 cpu which has no integrated graphics on it. I called my computer support today and they said when my computer is connected to the graphics card only my DVI or HDMI ports would work and my VGA port would be disabled. Is this true? Is this why my VGA port isnt working?

Yeah the 1060 has a DVI and a HDMI but no vga. So would the VGA only work if I had a integrated gpu in my cpu?

Having a VGA port on your motherboard implies there IS an integrated GPU, it isn't embedded on the processor like in an APU but it's there. And no, you can't use both at the same time, when a graphics card is connected, the onboard GPU is disabled so the card can work without resource conflicts
