hello,
Sorry if this is a stupid question but i just wanted to make sure that i'm not destroying my cpu/motherboard.
I recently decided to overclock my cpu a bit more because i was getting low fps on some games since my cpu was running at like 100% and my gpu (GTX 1070) was only at 60%
I have set my voltage to +0.0125...
and changed clock speed to 4200MHz and CPU Current Capability - 120%
CPU/NB Current Capability - 120%
DRAM Current Capability 120%

I only changed those settings when i followed this guide http://www.overclock.net/t/1348623/amd-bulldozer-and-piledriver-overclocking-guide-asus-motherboard because when i tried to change all the things it said on there, my pc sometimes would not start up and load the default profile in my bios or the temperature would be too high.

I ran the AIDA64 test for 2 hours and i got 62 centigrade. I attached some images if someone can take a look.

Please someone tell me if I need to change any of my other settings in the bios since im have only overclocked 1 other time and i only changed my clock multiplier.

also my motherboard is M5A99x evo r2.0

Overclocks are much more about the process and carefully monitoring temperatures, than hard and fast figures. You may find on the 8320 that you still have 100-200Mhz left before temperatures really take off, but you may not too. 4.2 is an average result already for that particular chip......and I'd expect that board to only get about 90% of the available performance possible (it's a very good board, but not exceptional).

This is also another thorough FX guide:

http://www.amd.com/Documents/AMD_FX_Performance_Tuning_Guide.pdf

for some of the finer tuning details on that platform to get as close as possible to your top end.

what should the voltage be around? should i just keep increasing it one at a time? and do i need to change anything else?

I was worried about the temperature because in the guide that i read it said this

Thermal Limits
CPU Core - 62 Celsius
CPU Socket - 72 Celsius

Voltage Limits
- CPU Manual Voltage 1.55v

It's an AMD, do some research, it'll throttle around 65C so at 62C he's right on the limit as it is.

Thank you so much for the guide, and thanks everyone for all the help. I managed to push it up to 4.3GHz and keep it at 62 although it doesn't go as high when i'm gaming, The only reason I wanted to OC was because in Dota 2 with ultra settings I will occasionally get fps drops but now i never get fps drops.

I don't know if i messed up when I was installing my cpu fan, I might have put like a bit more than what was shown in the video but it was like 1/4 of the tube and I have a coolermaster 212 which people were saying was a good cpu cooler for overclocking but can someone tell me if this is the expected temperature or have i made a mistake?

and it seems like that the cpu fan only goes up to around 1000rpm, and never above that, do you think there is something wrong with it?

also just want to make something sure, when people talk about the CPU temperature do they mean the socket temperature or the Core temperature?
my core temperature is always around <40C when gaming, I will feel really stupid if this is the temperature that i'm meant to be monitoring.

Thank you.

I managed to go up to 4.4GHz and get the temperature down to 54C, my fan was set to silent so I tried changing it to manual and setting the max temperature to 60, and now the fan runs just over 1300RPM and the temperature was 54C when testing for 2 hours.

could you tell me what the idle temperature should be? mine sticks to around 35-42C when im using the browser or doing light work, people were saying that it should be below 30 when idle but i never get that. I thought it might be cause all my cores were running at 4.2Ghz all the time so i switched to balanced power mode in windows so now it downclocks when im not gaming but it still at around 40C when idle.
