Hi I have a vaio VPCEB1S1E and its Hdd is about to die and I want to upgrate it to a SSD but I in bios I cant find te option to change to AHCI mode and I read that IDE with ssd its like and hdd. (actualy at the bios I cant do anything the only things I can change are boot drive and time no other options). At device manager I can see ahci controller but I am not sure if I can enable it somehow. I updated latest bios still the same options. If I swap to an ssd will it auto enable ahci? or I have no chance with ssd and I should buy a HDD
Thanks in advance
Bios name is Aptio setup utility 2008.

Solution
That is not your only problem.

Since the bios, or laptop states it was made in 2008 you have to question even though it can use or implement ACHI mode.
What ACHI mode it is using, Sata port speed.

On a laptop as old as 2008 it may be the case it only uses a Sata port speed mode at a maximum of Sata version 1.0 spec for the port. It runs at 150 Mbps speed maximum if the case.

So buying an SSD drive that can read and write at Sata II or Sata III speeds will be a complete waste of your time and money as it will obviously be limited by the Sata or AHCI speed mode of 150 Mbps surv1vor69

You need to verify what speed the laptop quotes the Sata / AHCI mode is working at on the laptop if you get what I am saying to you.

Just do a google...

Just do a google search of the laptop brand and its model number in a search adding specifications to get the speed the Ahci controller works at in emulated Sata mode.

If the laptop is only a year old or so it will work fine with a SSD drive fitted.
If you have problems changing the current mode selected check that you are in the advanced bios option modes if the laptop has the options. selecting basic bios mode does not allow you to change settings manually unless in advanced bios setup mode.

Also review the keys stated to navigate through the bios and selection of options.

After some research about my computers ahci controller I found via HWinfo64 it uses sata 2 so there is no point in buying an SSD thank you.
