I recently bought a Samsung EVO 850 SSD and have been having problems with it freezing and disconnecting when waking from sleep. I am sending it back to the store where I bought it and I need to Secure Erase the drive.
I created a bootable USB from the Samsung Magician software (Both 4.5 and 5.0 which is the newest) and every time I hit 'Y' to start the secure erase, it tells me that it is not supported by the SSD. I have tried unplugging the drive, with the computer on, as I've read elsewhere and tried the segui0.exe, but nothing happens and nothing seems to work.
I need to send this drive back to the vendor soon and I do not want to have my data recoverable as it would contain emails, financial information both personal and business, etc.
I'm not buying parted magic just to use on a defective drive that I'm sending back and there is no guarantee that it would work anyway. The only other option that I can think of is to use diskpart and clean all to write zeros to the entire drive.
Are there any other options?
