Not sure if this is the right place to ask this but I recently upgraded to a 2TB HDD and I tried to use my old HDD as an external drive but I keep getting the error message "USB device not recognized".

Anyone know how to fix this?

The old HDD has 400gb used space if that makes any difference

Hey there, @IMR4895!

In addition to what @captaincharisma mentioned you should basically check what is the file system of your external HDD on your computer. If it needs to get reformatted to FAT32, you can do that through your Disk Management in Windows or Disk Utility in Mac OS X . However, keep in mind that the procedure will erase all the contents on the external, so make sure you back up any important files you have already stored on it. You should also be aware of the limitations that come from using the FAT32 file system.

Hope this helps you as well. Keep us posted if you have more questions. :)
