So yesterday I noticed thay my computer was kind of freezing, until It froze completly. I have a Samsung sdd 850 Evo with Windows 8 and a black western digital 2t Hard Drive for storage and games. I rebooted the computer after It, and Windows wouldn't start. I runned a memory test and It was ok. I runned a test on the hard Drive but It has too many bad sectors. I was wondering if bad sectors on the storage disk can cause windows to run so slow (after all the testing I did and Windows doing the automatic recovery, It did turn on). Also, the Samsung software for my sdd, the benchmark is quite bad.. it's not writting and reading as fast as It should. Could my sdd be broken too? Did the bad sectors on the storage disk cause windows to run so slow and make my sdd perform a bad benchmark?

Welcome to the community, @Carolin4!

I'm sorry to hear about your performance issues with the WD Black. :( If the HDD has too many bad sectors, I'd strongly recommend you backup all your important files form the drive somewhere off-site immediately! This is how you will avoid any potential data loss! The bad sectors could corrupt the data stored on it, so make sure you copy these files somewhere safe. Unfortunately, a bad secondary HDD can influence the performance of the system due to the fact that Windows is attempting to read the hard drive and since it encounters issues when doing this, the system could run slower than it should. Once you have backed up your data, try running the QUICK and EXTENDED tests from our Data LifeGuard Diagnostics for Windows . It will help us determine what is the exact health and SMART status of the WD Black. If it fails any of those two tests, I'd advise you to check the warranty as well and send an RMA request to our Customer Support. Bad sectors are something that cannot be fixed!

I'd also recommend unplugging the WD Black from the system and check how your PC will boot with just the SSD connected. Then, run the benchmark from the brand-specific software and see how the read/write speeds will be. Posting some screenshots from the benchmark tools and diagnostic utility will be really helpful.

Let me know how it goes & good luck!

The test error Code says:

Test result: FAIL
08-Too many bad sectors detected

I did cut the test after I got a message that said:
DLDIAG for windows
Too many bad sectors detected.

I stopped It after that message and the estimated time remaining was around 100 hours.
(I did all this testing yesterday)
The disk has less than 5 years so It should be on warranty. I'll backup my things and check the ssd again then with the hdd unplug.

So the Western Digital Black is supposed to have a 5 year warranty.. My drive was bought in 2014, I have the recipe, and the Western Digital web page says my disk is "out of warranty". Plus, the "date" on disk says 18 Dec 2013, I guess that's when the disk was manufactured.. so why would it say that it is out of warranty? How can I change that? Do they have an online person that I can chat with? Because I didn't found that option

Hello again & Merry Christmas, @Carolin!

I'm truly sorry to hear about your WD Black being out of warranty. :( I'm not sure where you bought this HDD from, but I'd also strongly recommend you try to get in touch with the reseller's customer support as well. As for our WD Contacts, you shouldn't face any issues getting in touch with them either by phone or e-mail (Ask a question).

I hope it helps you. Good luck & Happy Holidays!
