Hello, I'm looking for reliable ways to password protect external hard drives. I want to stop unwanted access to these drives at a basic level. Full blown encryption is probably not necessary because it seems to take a long time....tried using BitLocker but it took forever to encrypt a small capacity USB and I'm looking to password protect a 1TB external drive. What are some good methods/softwares to achieve this? Thank you

Full encryption is the best way.

At a previous job, we used Symantec's Encryption and encrypting the drive took approximately 1 hour per 100 GB of space. (so a 500 GB woudl encrypt in 5 hours, 1 Tb in 10 hours), but only has to be done once.

this was an older version of the software, so modern implementation may take less time
