Competitive gaming 144hz 21:9 vs 16:9 monitor ?

Solution
I do not play Overwatch, but you should confirm whether you can adjust the FoV manually or how the game/engine handles 21:9.
Some games state they support 21:9, but rather than increasing the horizontal FoV to account for the wider screen they reduce the vertical FoV to compensate (or a combination of the two). Other games simply stretch the image (which looks kind of bad - and makes it more difficult for you to focus on the entire viable area).
Wider is only better if the game supports it.

Did a quick search and found this somewhat old article:

It would suggest that Overwatch does not support 21:9 in a way that actually benefits you. So unless things...

If Overwatch supports 21:9 I would definitely go for that. Wider viewing angle = competitive edge.
You'll be limited to 100Hz with G-sync but the extra width makes up for that in my opinion.

I myself am planning on getting the Acer Predator X34P when it comes out.

You're right, my bad. I was assuming it was similar to the X34. Theres absolutely no reason I can see NOT to get that monitor lol. Other than price, if you've got the money, GET IT!

+dazkyl Before you make this decision, please verify that Overwatch in 21:9 ratio gives you a greater FOV. Last I checked, it did not, but perhaps it's changed. Please read the article at the bottom. You may also want to reach out directly to Blizzard to confirm.

With that said, the 3440 x 1440 resolution is my current favorite with gaming in general.

If it doesn't work out with the 21:9 ratio display, then I'd like to give an honorable mention to the Acer Predator XB271HU; 1440p / 27" / g-sync / 165 Hz monitor. I just looked it up and noticed that it's out of stock on both NewEgg and Amazon, which leads me to believe that they are preparing to release a new model? Perhaps it'll be 180 Hz?
