Hi!

Currently planning to upgrade my PC, but got a few choices to make. Going with one of the following:

1. 2x GTX 970, 4790k, 16gb ddr3 ram (like 2400mhz), some decent mobo - used
2. 1x RX 480 8gb, 6600k, 16gb ddr4 ram (like 2400mhz), Z170-a - new
3. 1x RX 480 8gb, 7600k (wait for that cpu), 16gb ddr4 ram (like 2400mhz), Z270-a - new

4. 1x GTX 970, 4790k, 16gb ddr3 ram (like 2400mhz), some decent mobo - used. Saving 180$.

All cost almost the same.

Which would be my best bet?

Not going to reuse any old parts. All the other parts are the same for those 3 builds.

Cheers

I would not recommend build 1. The GTX970 in SLI has some issues with the memory above 3.5 gB, so any SLI gains might be overshadowed by the memory access. SLI has its own issues with some games not taking advantage of it.
Not to mention the additional heat and power issues associated with two graphics cards.

How much will all of these cost?
Stay away from multi gpu rigs. It will only give you trouble for the little it gives you back nowadays.

id probably go with the 2nd or 3rd depending on how soon you want to buy. I thought a single 970 was comparable to a 480 (could be wrong) so with games that use SLI, the first build will be MUCH better. But if you dont play games with SLI support then it doesnt matter.

I'm also hesitant to buy a used build. especially with SLI . My guess is they probably overclocked stuff and you dont know how well they took care of it

I'm getting the 970 for about 140$ locally (the 480 is 250$). The i7 4790k I'd be getting for 170$ (the 6600k is 240$).
