My system: Gateway DX4375-ur22 Win 8.1

I removed the existing 4 gb memory card that came with pc. I installed a kit of 2 x 8gb Patriot DDR3 PC3-12800 1600 MHz. The pc starts but won't go into windows. I am able to get into the bios and it shows the new memory there, but when I exit, it either just reboots and blank screen, or the Gateway logo shows but remains frozen. It did beep a few times but ends up freezing or blanking out.

One thing I read was to update bios so I dowloaded an updated bios version to try to update, but when I tried to run the .exe file, the pc said it could not open it and to check with the software manufacturer. I used my serial number on Gateway's site, but it would not allow me to open it. I did write down directions to update from a thumbdrive off the read me file, but not sure if I should force it.

I already reseated the ram several times, tried my original (it worked fine), and confirmed the specs.

Anyways, would love some help on getting it working!

Hey,
Why don't you try this. When your system is booting up and it gets passed the bios screen, try holding F8 and it should take you into recovery options. If it doesn't, you should get a Windows 8.1 ISO and burn it to a DVD or USB flash drive and boot your system from that and click on repair my computer. Once, you get there, click on Startup repair and see if that does anything. I am advising this because your computer might have changed a setting on your OS and it probably didn't handle it correctly. I will leave the link for the ISO below.
