Just bought a new pc and new monitor. When i plug in my earphones/headphones to my monitor the sound works, i can listen to videos and stuff but when i want to talk on skype i cant hear my friends and they cant hear me. It says theres no sound card detected. Then when i plug in myheadphones/earphones into my pc's headphone jack, i can hear sound but its extemely low. Maybe i have to adjust something in the window that pops up when i plug my headphones/earphones into my headphone jack. Then finally, when i plug in my headphones/earphones into the microphone jack on my pc, skype doesnt give me the "cant detect soundcard" message but i cant listen to videos or anything. What am i doing wrong. Do i need to buy external speakers or something. I just want my mic working and speakers at the same time. Someone please help.

No, speakers into headphone plug, usually green. Your headphones into mic - usually red/pink. Get a splitter too as this way your sound won't be picked up by the mic when you want to turn the volume up on the sound, use the splitter and listen to the sound in your headphones while the mic pics up your voice.
