Hi all. I recently bought a new laptop with freedos, and I moved my 500gb hdd from my previous laptop (with two partitions, C: for windows, D: for anything else) to the new one. When I tried to install windows on the new laptop, I realized that something got wrong with my HDD. The thing i that I have now a 1GB partition on it with freedos, and a 400+gb unallocated space (with all my data lost). I don't know what triggered this, I just turned on the laptop. I don't know what to do, I want to have my hdd data back... What can be the problem? How to fix this? Any help appreciated. Thanks,Tony

Hi there htonio,

My suggestion would be to attach the drive as a secondary one, to another computer. Once you do that, you can run some data recovery tools on it: https://www.lifewire.com/free-data-recovery-software-tools-2622893
Save all the recovered data on another computer. Keep in mind that some of it may be overwritten.

Once you get all the data back and it is safely stored on another drive, you can reformat this one. Then, you install it in the laptop and perform clean OS installation.

Let me know in case you have some more questions,
