I just made a new PC and have this adapter... I can connect to wifi networks just fine, but my speed is more or less cut in half compared to my laptop which is right next to my desktop.

When trying to update the drivers I noticed the adapter isn't actually recognized as a TP Link adapter, it's displayed as Qualcomm Atheros AR9287 wireless network adapter (Qualcomm Atheros being the original manufacturer of the chip). When trying replace the driver with the TP link driver it doesn't work, simply sticks to the qualcomm name and driver. Updating the qualcomm driver through their unofficial site doesn't seem to help the connection speed at all.

I'm thinking its a compatibility issue with windows 10 that TP link has overlooked? Very dissapointed since this adapter worked fine on my last build which was windows 7.

it is plenty of sites covering that and part of the product overview thing is think, what works well with that malware called windows 10 anyway ?? not much

TP-LINK TL-WN881ND Wireless N300 PCI Express Adapter, 300 Mbps, w/ WPS Button, IEEE 802.1b/g/n, 64 / 128 bit WEP, WPA / WPA2, Plug & Play in Windows 10(32 bit & 64 bit)

Crosschecking speedtest results:

On my laptop I get 12 ms, 27.52 Mbps download, 7.83 upload.

On the desktop with this damn adapter: 14 ms, 7.52 mbps download, 7.43 upload

So the only handicap seems to be the download speed. How is that possible? Could it be hardware issue? I have no experience with how network adapters work.

It could very well be that the adapter itself is working fine and that there is something else causing the issue, but like I said its a brand new set up so stuff like virus or software issues is very unlikely.

I yet to see a desktop match a laptop in wireless for some reason a laptop just works better like here every device is faster then my desktop as well

if I had a answer to this I would apply it here on my stuff ..LOL..... all the configuring and drivers in the world never make a difference ..

then I hate to think I get another wifi adaptor and finds it kicks a$$ over the ones I use now

Can you post the spec of the laptops wifi adapter? Or make/model of the laptop.

You're using a wireless N300, the laptop may well have a better adapter.

The 300 aspect shouldn't impact speeds theoretically, but in some instances it can be a limitation. I wouldn't imagine it to be the case given the speeds you're quoting, but it's difficult to say without knowing the adapter in the laptop.
