Depends on what it is for.

If you already have an i7-5820k then it is a suitable board for it. Has plenty of I/O, dual LAN, all the ram slots you could want.

If you haven't yet purchased a CPU though, it is an expensive board for an expensive chip. And doesn't differentiate enough from an i7-6700k to be worth it. The i7-5830k or i7-6850k are the ones where you end up with more PCIe lanes and is suitable for several graphics cards or other PCIe consumables.

For gaming with one or two GPUs a i7-6700k on Z170 or i7-7700k on a 200 series board (when it comes out) would be the better choice.

If you are doing heavy calculations and need the 6 cores and massive amounts of quad channel memory, you can certainly go that route.

I'm sure you've found all features you need on xtreme4 so get it.

Personal opinions on Asrock Extreme 4

  • CPU's 12 phase power design + DRAM's 4 phase power design, in theory you'll have cost efficient especially when paired with octal or more cores and four RAM sticks/channel. There are several advantages in having a voltage regulator circuit with more phases. The most obvious is that the transistors will be working less loaded, which provides a higher life-span to these components and a lower operating temperature. Another advantage is that the more phases you have usually the output voltage is more stable and also the noise level is lower.
Nichicon capacitor, a 12.000 hours life span seems like exaggerated marketing slogan, some high end such as Asus X99-E WS also us this capacitor by the way.

Caveats■PCIEX16 arrangement, with that size it should accommodate four double slot configuration, unfortunately the DRAM slot has taken one PCIe space.Vertical facing molex header near CPU socket?, not my definition of ergonomic.■ 3 pin fan headers, don't know why only put 3 pin,..... 3 pin, ......
