It is however it is fast becoming a redundant platform and AM3+ is end of life.
If you intend going with AMD then wait till Q1 for ZEN on the new AM4 platform.

To answer your question, yes, the AMD FX (Vishera) line of CPUs are the highest end AMD CPUs on the market, however, as MeanMachine41 stated above, the AM3+ platform is indeed dead in the water. I too would recommend waiting for AM4 if you're on team red. Hope this helps!
