Installed new gpu, monitor no signal, pc keeps restarting

So I bought a new gpu and monitor shows no signal. I decided to read some reviews and people would say to remove gpu and try to run it back on motherboard, but I cant even do that. I removed the gpu and reconnected it to the motherboard but still no display, (i am using a vga to hdmi adapter cause my motherboard only had hdmi connection). At this point I also noticed that my computer would repeatedly restart. Please help.

So you said you bought a new GPU. Did you have a previous GPU that you can use to see if it works?

I never had any discrete graphics card installed on this build before, only using the integrated provided by the motherboard. And as I'm typing this I am using the said computer, I don't know what was different that happened. I just put away my GPU and started cleaning up, reconnected the lines to my motherboard and psu and the computer is running normally again.

Now that I am able to use my monitor again using the motherboard graphics card, any tips before I attempt number 2 at installing the gpu?
