Zalman R1 case fans doing nothing?

So my build is in a zalman r1 case. I like the case and it's clean and minimal, I have a i7 6700 and Rx 480 nitro+.

The way the fans in the case go is there is an intake fan at the bottom front, and an exhaust fan top back, I have a cryorig h7 cooler that pushes air through the heatsink out towards the back of the case towards the rear exhaust fan. Right on top of the cpu cooler is another case fan, it pulls air up, BUT there is nowhere for that air to go. The top of the case comes off, but if the top is on, there are no holes for that fan to push air through.

I didn't touch the fans, everything is the way it came in the case. So should I keep the top open? That would make it look Meh cause of the giant rectangular hole in the top of the case, or should I keep it closed?

Here's the case:

The top panel is actually two parts,

the top most part should come off for better airflow and subsequently act as an exhaust/outlet for the two fans mounted above the motherboard.

* Yes the top should be open to help with top ventilation.

Could I suggest changing it out for a Fractal Define R5 or a Phanteks P400 or something with a dust filter atop? :)
