I just built a new rig, and I had a windows 8.1 product key so I decided to use it. I downloaded the OS from Microsoft, and installed through a USB. During installation I remember seeing "installing updates", or something like that. However, if I go to recent updates there is nothing. And my system has been checking for update for at least 2 hours. Also, I tried installing iTunes and iCloud, and iCloud won't install. I get a message saying "there is a problem with this windows installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected". Thanks for any help guys! Solution
see if this helps:
right click start button
choose command prompt (admin)
type SFC /scannow and press enter

once its run, copy/paste this into same windows - needs to be exact
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

SFC cleans system files, DISM cleans the image SFC uses to check them. So if SFC found files it could not fix before, try again
