I currently have an i7-4790s and want to upgrade. I have a budget of around 300-400 USD for the CPU as long as I don't have to buy any other components other than a mobo and maybe a new PSU. Currently have this PC: http://www.userbenchmark.com/System/Asus-K30AD-M31AD-M51AD/4263 upgraded with a 970 and a 750W PSU. I specifically want this new CPU for gaming and VR, will I see a significant FPS increase with a CPU from that budget? Please let me know if I'll have to change anything other than the mobo to support your suggested CPU. Thanks a lot!

I would agree that if you already have an Intel i7 4790 cpu.
That there is little reason, or need to upgrade the cpu as it stands.

That cpu would not create any sort of bottleneck at all of the system if using it with a high end graphics gaming card.
As it stands.

In less you are going for a K series cpu in the Intel cpu range of i7 cpu`s to some overclocking of the unlocked cpu.
Even for VR it should be able to cope with it.

Have you run the steam VR ready test software on your system as it stands to get and Idea of how the current i7 cpu you have copes with VR ?

If not do so.

Yeah, I ran the test and it said my computer can handle mid - high quality graphics for VR. What would my bottleneck be in this case? If you were to upgrade my computer where would you put your money?
