im looking for a wifi adapter, something that can reach the distance of about a city block and still get full bars but cost less than $50, anything like that on the market?

Solution
The reach of 100 yards is very dependent on the location. If you have line of sight, it is possible. But the other side is, can the device at the other end reach 100 yards? Do you need a circle of 100 yards or in just one direction?

Look for an outdoor access point with a directional antenna for best results. Ubiquiti and Engenius are good companies to start with.
