Windows 7 from USB: can't be installed on this drive

Hello. I have a problem with installing Windows 7 I cannot solve myself.

The mainboard system is: MSI K9N Neo V2, with AMD CPU and several HDDs.

I am trying to install from USB drive (properly made via Micsrosoft USB/DVD tool, using MSDN images, x64 version). The install process starts normally but when it comes to selecting drive... Windows installer says there're none fit for installation.

I mean... I see partitions and HDDs in browser. I try to select them, only Windows says that "Windows cannot be installed on this disc". _Without_ mentioning GPT or MBR. Just "can't"

Now, I found a thing or two about this. Several articles claiming that there's a problem with USB-bootable disc (or something like that). And yes, when I install from DVD, it chooses the disc and installs Win7 to the very end.
------
USB: says it can't be installed on any partition
DVD: installs okay on the same HDD
------
The thing I never discovered is: what can I do so that Windows can be installed from USB drive on that PC?

I tried almost everything within BIOS up to now. I several times re-partitioned disc uing both installation tools and Win7 tools through console. It makes no difference.

Faulty USB stick or faulty USB port is not the case, I'm afraid. I tried at least two different USB sticks. And I think I used various ports throughout my attempts to make it work.

I'll repeat that again: it starts normally; the problem occurs when Windows asks to choose a drive to install to. Before that insrtallation process works 100% correctly both from USB and DVD.

Yes, certainly. When I first failed to install and found that article about USB-bootable as a source of problem, I burned the same ISO on DVD and installed. Still I'd very much like to be able to do it via USB-stick. To understand what's gone wrong and how to fix that.

Yes, I did. Not only saw, but also used DISKPART to delete, create and format drives anew. First I thought the problem was in drives themsleves, so I re-partitioned HDD several times. Before discovering that DVD would work.

Not sure. Never checked. I shall check that, thank you

no. I used another man's clear copy of MSDN image and my own keys. It was easier to burn ISO than download from Microsoft at that time. I've got your point. Maybe it is the issue of the image. I shall check that too.

Hey. How can this exactly help? If I understand it right: when USB Legacy mode is off, USB just doesn't work before Windows starts. So I shouldn't be able to even _start_ Windows installation from USB. Right?

I am just trying to understand what settings you have enabled (or not) in your BIOS to isolate why it won't install from a USB drive. Some experimentation may be in order.

Another thing to try would to attempt to install Windows with only the intended boot HDD connected (just remove the power connector from the other HDDs). This would give Windows only a single place to install itself.

Thank you very much for your cooperation. It seems that problem... solved itself.

I tried to redo everythong from the very beginning: get ISO, make bootable USB, install anew... and this time it suddenly qworked. I still do not know what exactly was wrong but as long as I am sure USB was okay, it is most probable that the previous ISO was faulty.
