Hey guys, currently I'm gaming at 1080p with a xfx rx 480, core i7 4790 non k, gigabyte z97-sli mobo, 32 gb ram, and a 144 Hz Free Sync Acer monitor. My question, is I am wanting to upgrade to a 1440p build and was wondering the best upgrade path. However, I've heard that running a single rx 480 would not get the best results at 1440 p. I was considering getting another rx 480 and running them in crossfire, and upgrading to a 1440 p 144 Hz 1 ms free sync monitor. Free sync, or maybe g sync is not negotiable. it makes so much of a difference I can't go back to a regular monitor. My budget is around $700 US for a monitor and a new gfx card.

Do you think it's worth waiting for the rx 490 to come out? I know that not all games scale well in crossfire mode. Or should I scrape everything and move to team green and get a 1070 and a 1440 p G Sync Monitor. I think that would put me out of budget tho. Any suggestions that you guys have for me or and advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Me personally would go for the GTX 1070 right away and then save a little money (if necessary) and buy the monitor I wanted. Crossfire is going to have issues, just like SLI does and I've done SLI and didn't like it. It didn't work in all games and then there was the microstutter issues, and not to mention the added heat and power requirements.

I was considering getting these for $900 US. I could justify the extra money for the extra performance I would get at 1440p

^ +1 to this.

Also wait and see what the 490 offers and price. No reason to rush a purchase unless you need too.
