I'm making my first PC build and bought most of my parts on cyber Monday. I purposely didn't choose to buy my CPU because I thought, it's not the newest card and it can't possibly go higher since a newer card may come out soon. I was wrong. About 2-3 weeks I've been eyeing up the gtx 1070 gaming x and z by Msi. The x in that time period was about $420 or something like that and the z was $465. I wouldn't mind spending the extra 40 for the Z for the performance but I mean they just yesterday raised the Z to $540 and the x to $500? Why such a big change at that point and will it ever come back down before Christmas ?
Thanks.

It's all about supply and demand. If the demand is high enough, companies will raise the prices on purpose. Remember when the Wii first came out 10 years ago? Supply was low, but demand was very high. People were paying 2 or 3 times as much just to get one.
