Hello, I am starting a new pc build and was wondering if The new kaby lake chips will work the the lga1151 socket and z170 board. Also is it worth buying the 6600k?

Solution
Today, I5-6600K with an overclock is as good as it gets for a gamer.
Next year, kaby lake may well be 5% better price/performer if you want to wait.

If you have a need now, buy now.

Yes,. current lga1151 motherboards will have a bios update that supports kaby lake i5-7600K and I7-7700K.
But you are unlikely to find that such an upgrade is worthwhile.

The big unknown is what the 200 series chipsets will bring in the storage area. Xpoint Optane may well have a 10x performance boost. And a good price too.

Yeah the kaby lake CPUs will work with Z170 Motherboards, but they're creating Z270 Motherboards for them too, and for the second answer, is it worth it? It's up to you, can you wait a couple of months until the 7600K is released? If so, then get that one, if not then the 6600K can be purchased.

It also depends on your current build.
