I'm thinking of upgrading from a 970 to a 1070 this Christmas, and was wondering if I should also upgrade my CPU from the i5 6500 3.2GHz to a i7 6700k 4.0GHz.

BTW, I have 16GB (8x2) 2133MHz RAM, Z170A Gaming 3 Mobo, Raidmax RX-635AP 635W (Which I've had no problems with despite its reputation), Windows 10 64 bit, and a Samsung 850 EVO 250GB.

Probably not. But it might. Depends on your game. You will most likely be save to get a gtx 1070. It's from the newest intel cpu generation, which means it should be no problem. I have the i5 4460 with an EVGA FTW 1070. So get the gtx 1070 and enjoy your games! :)

The only game I can think of where that cpu might hold you back a little is BF1, and even then it won't be much. That PSU however is in bad need of replacing. It may not be giving you problems yet but when it does it maybe too late to replace just the PSU(as in it may take other parts with it).

If I upgraded to a 1440p monitor, how would it effect the gameplay then? Would I still get around 60 fps, or would the cpu drag it back even more?

(BTW I replaced the PSU with a Corsair CX750)

Green and black, at least the packaging is. The PSU itself is black.
