Impossible to stop under clocking Zotac 970? Help!

that's what NVidia gpu boost 2.0 does ??

proformance and overclocking of any card comes down to a lot of luck of the draw and zotac pushes there amp ex, cards pretty high out of the box and may not have much to no overclocking head room anyway 1443 out of the box boost is pretty nice

you see how temps come in to play and why cooling of Maxwell was key over voltages [reason I went with a hybrid = no thermal throttling 45c max ]

I guess nothing short of a crazy bios mod ? but I'm sure doing something like that as you want will just damage the card if something needs to back off before damage occurs ? just locking it down maxed out it will just bop until she pops

that's why them parameters and fail safes are built in

thing is it should hold the max clock but if it hit a thermal limit it will down clock or if it hits a voltage / power limit it will down clock

guys have reported the card will down clock at as low as 60c ??

to go back to my hybrid I never see any thermal throttling but voltage it can and will and depending on the card is how much of a ceiling

so say if your card is stock and say can do 1443 at 1.2 v when gpu boost get with in about 96% of that it will down clock just a tad maybe to like 1425 but you could slide the power target up to 110% now you gave that a buffer it will still downclock but not as quick and nay not until 102% voltage



see all that orange ? that's when things are hitting the limits in the cards bios

that's pretty sweet even if it does down clock some due to power or thermal limit s being hit so now I got to ask how bad is it down clocking

my card 1454.7 MHz is the best all day everything I got at 1.23v I can get more but it starts like yours and hit a voltage limitation to hold a higher clock and will just down clock every time it does

running valley bench and gpu-z render test at the same time after 3 loops [ notice no orange like I showed above ] solid clock and with my temps at 40c no thermal throttling

furmark ? that gave me nothing but issues and never worked right I stopped using it quick it crashed a lot and can put the card in low power fail safe mode

thing is a stress test is going to push it until it fails /downclocks . what ever why its called a stress test your card must be hitting a limit and when it does it downclocks like if it hits a power limitation it downclocks cause there not enough power stable to the card to hold the higher / boost clocks

thermal down clocks to prevent burning up the card this is all set in the cards bios and controlled by NVidia GPU boost

its normal but like I said luck of the draw on how well your card handles all this some may do great and excel some may not do much more then the manufactures min specs

just how it is like my card I can go higher with it but thas when I see all this as well on the voltage end and I'm pretty sure that's what your seeing if not thermal

higher clocks mean more power the cards regulator can only do so much gpu boost allows a % of that so at 1445 clock the card needs 1.2v but when the the gpu boost gets to 96% of that voltage it adjusts

afterburner has a OSD that shows this look at my screen shot and see at top ''power 96% '' ? that's with the power limit % slider all the way up [110%] to help buffer that

run the same test as you did with one at stock [100%] the re run it with the slider at max i'll bet even if you still see downclocking it will not d it as fast

cause setting the power limit % all the way up gives the little bit of head room

thing is there only so much any card can do some better then others do guy with my card oc better then mine can ? YES a lot better do some do not as good ? YES a lot worse then mine . all you can do is shoot for the best stable 24/7 balance

I'm sure I could go do a bios mod and get a lot better out of mine but I don't see where it that big a deal I'm not a top end oc card but then I sure aint at the bottom or got a card that just don't oc well if any at all
