Would it be safe to use laptop hard drive in a desktop?

Hi guys I was wondering if I could put a laptop hard drive into a desktop without any problems? I have a cousin who had a hard drive die on him and he asked me for help (seeing as he had no spares). I told him I had a Seagate 1TB 2.5 inch drive lying around, but I wasn't sure if it would be safe to be using it as his main drive and that it would be slower. Would it be okay for me to put a 2.5in drive in his machine?

Currently, i'm using an HDD from a laptop (mine is dead so i want to keep linux) and it is installed in my desktop pc, so, at today, no problems at all.

When my laptop died, I had no issues moving it to my desktop to retrieve some important data.

Yeah, I did that for a while (Seagate laptop SSHD).

It was slow, but it worked fine.
