Solution
Your current PC should be able to run pretty much everything as smooth as possible on a 60Hz 1080p display. Upgrading your PC hardware without getting a better monitor is pretty pointless.
If you want to make things look smoother, you will have to get a monitor with a higher refresh rate, something like 144Hz. Then you may want to change out some of the hardware in your PC. A better CPU would be beneficial due to outputting higher FPS having a large toll on the CPU. Like said above, I would recommend an I7 4790k, only due to it slotting right into your current motherboard with no other hardware changes. An I7 6700k will be slightly better, but you would also need to buy a new motherboard and RAM.

You already have a pretty top notch system. You could overclock that 4670k, if you have a good cooler on it. A 4790k, with a bios update could be done, but wouldn't give you much more gaming performance, unless a specific title benefits from the i7's hyperthreading. DDR4 won't do anything for you, and wouldn't work in your system anyway.

Not to mention the Windows licensing issues with a new MB and CPU:(

I wouldn't bother upgrading the monitor to stay at 1080p... An upgrade to a 165 Hz IPS screen like the Acer XB271 bmrpz or Asus PG279Q would, tho expensive, (pre XMAs demand has driven prices up) would have the biggest impact per dollar for gaming. Decent MoBo, 6700k and 6 GB RAM would cost close to $600 and the difference would not be very noticeable. The 1440p IPS screens from Acer and Asus, tho $1050 more than that $600 would ... I almost want to say get a seat belt for your gaming chair before you turn it on. :)

I have done MoBo swaps from 1156 to 1155 and 1150 to 1151 (obviously with CPus) with no "licensing issues". A MoBo swap (even with Win 7/8/XP) does not necessarily require a new license. If you stay with the same brand and in the same series (IOW, not changing from a $125 to a $450 board) with same on board componentry (i.e. LAN, Sound) on of 2 things is happening ...

a) The number of changed hardware hashes is low than the "trigger" number
b) The activation server assumes it's a warranty replacement and doesn't want you costing them money for staff time in getting a verbal authorization.

With Win 10 ... if you bought "Windows" even Windows OEM from newegg, you can transfer to a new PC as many times as you want.

A. Blazing PC Model Lightning 2100 w/ Windows 64 - $1500

B. Blazing PC Model Lightning 2100 w/ Windows 64 - $1420
Windows 10-64 Bit Home- $80 (or Windows 7 or Windows 8)
Total = $1500

Option A means no transfer, B allows transfer. See paragraphs 4a and 4b
