Good Gaming Processor?

So last Christmas I built a gaming PC using a kit off newegg. The CPU included with that kit was an AMD FX-4350, which at the time was great. Since then, I've upgraded my graphics card from an R7-360 to a GTX 1060 and I would like to upgrade my processor. So my question is, would it be better to stay within the FX series and get an 8350 or a 9590, or should I spend a little extra money and get a new motherboard and get a 4790K or a 6700K?

Solution
I don't think there'd be any reasonable upgrade from that CPU to stay on the same motherboard.

What is your budget? I wouldn't recommend a 6700K unless you're rendering as well as gaming. A 6600K, or even less would fit nicely.

I'm not an AMD guy, but hear AMD builds should wait until Zen is finally announced. As an Intel guy, I generally prefer the i5/i7 chips as they have better performance. But that's just for my needs. As of now the 4790k is still kicking and will be able to handle the 1060 with no issue. But if you are going the i7 route, you may want to consider upgrading to the 1070 in the future as well.

Also if you get another motherboard, if the Windows key was an OEM one, you may need another key as it was tired to the hardware.

Go for the i7-6700 if you don't want to overclock and save some money on an aftermarket cooler and a Z170 MOBO. If you don't really want to have the i7, go for the 6600 non-k version, since the 6600k is not worth it the money you spend to overclock. And yes, you can stay with the 8350 if you want to, but don't go for the 9590 since it's one of the worst CPUs out there.

whether you can upgrade to FX8/FX9 depends on your MOBO and what wattage CPU it can take, not all AM3/AM3+ are equal.

Why is this not worth the money with a Z170?

Not sure on this one either.

It's basically an i7-6700K just without the hypertheading, thats how I see it anyway, as it can overclock to similar clock speeds as the 6700K.

Saying that is sort of saying the the 6700K is definitely not worth the money, which it is if you can afford it.

In general gaming, the 6600k can only reach the 6700 non-k if you overclock it. Altough if you are going to overclock, you need an aftermarket cooler and a Z MOBO. The money you spent on these 2 things can buy the 6700+B150 and stay away from any overclocking trouble/worries.
