Hi, everyone

My friend built a computer and messaged me saying that i wouldn't start up, it would light up for a second or two and turn off. So i went over to his house and did some troubleshooting of my own since i'm the only person in my group of friends that has knowledge of computers. Anyway i couldn't figure it out for a good while about 3 days, after about 10 times of trying to turn on the computer and things etc... I bread boarded the motherboard (took it out of the case, placed it on a cardboard box and attached the barebone components to get into bios.) After board breading it for about 10 mins or so i figured out that he tightened the screws to tight to the case and created a short of something preventing the PC from starting. After i fixed that i installed it back in the case wired it up and everything seemed to go flawless from that point on. He then texts me on the phone again saying that he forgot to tell me that the computer keeps turning itself on by itself. So i go over do my daily maintenance and OS updating thinking it was that, i tell him to check back with me if it still does it. its still turning itself on randomly, this is confusing me i don't know what could be doing this? So now i ask can the motherboard be damaged because of the tightening screw dilemma? or is it on the software side that i missed? thanks for the help guys

Solution
Turning itself off is unlikely to be due to a prior short, although motherboard damage is (remotely) possible.

It's likely down to either:
1. Drivers
2. OVerheating
or
3. hardware defect (motherboard potentially, or even the PSU).

Could you post the specs?

Yes i did check if the motherboard was touching the case, and it is not there is a nice gap between the motherboard and the case

The Standoffs are the gold things under the motherboard right lol?
