I want to go SLI with
Currently
MSI GTX 970 GAMING 4G GDDR5 (Twin Frozr)
and pair with
ASUS STRIX-GTX970-DC2OC-4GD5

I have
MSI Z97 Gaming 5 motherboard
and Corsair RM750i PSU
So I hope I've prepaired enough for making this happen, never tried SLI.

I've been reading topics about going SLI with different brand GTX970, but the info makes me still going back and forth, because

As it's said at official geforce website:
Can I mix and match graphics cards from different manufacturers?
Using 180 or later graphics drivers, NVIDIA graphics cards from different manufacturers can be used together in an SLI configuration. For example, a GeForce XXXGT from manufacturer ABC can be matched with a GeForce XXXGT from manufacturer XYZ.
And almost in every topic people keep saying that all you need is just to have same model GPU (both GTX970 for example here) and that's it - brands dont have to be same, clocks can differ, because the fastest will run as slower one, and same about VRAM.
So in my situation I will not have any problems!

Yet still, some say, they try ASUS Strix with EVGA SSC and again EVGA with Gigabyte, but bad results when pairing those (said its EVGA fault most likely),
Also ASUS Strix with Zotac didn't, Zotac with Gigabyte didn't,
Also saw saying that even for 2 gtx970 ASUS'es but Strix with Dragon Knight (if that's a real name, idk) could not match because of chip and the PCB could be different - how can I be sure it is not my case?

But I have never saw there bringing up my combination..
So I assume that noone even has to write about it because it simply works?
Though I still worry that ASUS Strix came up many times at failing combinations.

Maybe someone has tried these 2 together?

Please help me make this clear!

Solution
They should all work together as long as they are GTX970's. These different brand problems could be just general SLI headaches. This or motherboard needing updated bios. This is to say its not problem free even with the exact same cards.

Solution
one more thing is msi is a tall card and a solid sli bridge may not work cause it will not fit on the tabs correctly /tilted/crooked /at a angle you may have to use a ribbon type 970 card were ''funny'' to start with and not ''true '' NVidia cards

'' Furthermore, as we mentioned in our GTX 980 review, GTX 970 has been a pure virtual (no reference card) launch, which means all of NVIDIA’s partners are launching their custom cards right out of the gate. A lot of these have been recycled or otherwise only slightly modified GTX 700/600 series designs''

I guess it all at your own risk may work great then may not ?? even like evgas own 970 cards may not sli together

http://www.evga.com/support/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=59534

one thing the 970 all ways had going for it was controversy [3.5 mem, coil whine , ect....] a chump card to me [opinion]

By the evga link I understand that to SLI GPUs must be from same 'column' there, maybe I can check my GPU for that kind of number/version/ID and by some way get the same info about ASUS?

Hmm actually forgot about that could be an issue for me.. But my MB came with a SLI 2-way bridge which can be bent, but not that good anyway if other card is shorter..

Thanks for your reply!

So I did commit to try this SLI.
I couldn't get it to work for about 7h today, ran into a problem which many experienced and no legit solution was there, mostly it was called as bad bridge.
The problem was that in Nvidia control panel you couldn't enable SLI, while it says that to maximize the 3d performance or something like that, you have to connect gpu's with sli connector. They both detected everywhere - device manager, geforce experience, Nvidia control panel. Was changing sli bridge in all possible positions. Nothing made me successful.
I was done with this bs, about to unplug the second gtx 970 to put it in box and go return, but I tried one more thing - I connected my monitor to the second gpu. And guess what, IT WORKED.
Performance is great, no weird bugs so far. I am really glad I made it. :D
