Overclocking but same results

Hi i overclocked my galax gtx 960 the benchmark i used for stress testing was kombuster i used the plasma stress test
before overclocking i got 83 fps
I overclocked the core clock a 95mhz more and got 89 fps and pushed it more to a 120mhz and it stayed at 89fps still
I overclocked my memory clock 150mhz more and still it stays at 89 fps
What am i doing wrong?
Thanks for any help this is my first time overclocking anything

What are your full system specs? Is this on a 60hz monitor or greater?

Is it possible that you're CPU bound?

I5 4460
16gb corsair vengeance ddr3 1600mhz
Msi h97 gaming 3 motherboard
I have to use a tv as my monitor its 1080p 60hz

You are applying the changes first right? And yes, check your CPU usage. If it's 100% or close, that's your answer.

I see spikes on my cpu into the 80's
But my gpu at 99 during the test

What software are you using? And again, are you applying the changes? I.e in Afterburner, clicking the tick to apply?

If your GPU usage is at 99% you dont have to. Are you also raising the power limit?

try rebooting your system and trying again. If not, its hard to explain. Can you see the coreclock running at the higher speed?

The core clock doesnt show in the benchmark just the fps but i checked and the coreclock was higher

In Afterburner, go to Settings>On Screen Dsiplay and set a hotkey for toggle, then you can display stats on the stress test itself. You can choose which stats are displayed under the Monitoring settings tab.

Not bad for a 960. You can probably push it further, but the coreclock is by far the most important.

I got the core clock to 120mhz gnna push it more i ran the stress test for 30 minutes after the 120mhz coreclock overclock and the card stayed below 70c

Yeah you can get a bit more out of that i dare say. A GPU OC will usually fail pretty quickly unlike a CPU OC, so it wont take long to find out!

The good thing with GPU overclocking is its software based so will automatically detect a failure and reset before overheating 99% of the time. Use custom VBIOS and you start taking risks, but manufacturers pretty much set OC limits with voltage/power draw in their factory BIOS.. It is pretty safe.
