Advice on this build? I feel its my sweet spot as far as hardware and price. Strictly for gaming. Could I swing $100US either way and still have something strong or comparable to this build or am I going too cheap?? Please let me know your thoughts.

16 gb corsair vengeance ddr4 3000
NVidia gtx 1080 founders

- don't get a founders edition card unless you're going for ITX
- don't get a 1060 unless you're running at least one screen with 2k resolution
- an i5-6600 performs around the same as the i7 in many games.
- a non-k CPU on a Z170 board is a waste of cash
- I've been hearing about sound issues with the Z170-A a lot lately. seems like there's some interference caused by the board sometimes.
- you're cheaping out on the PSU

three suggestions:

i5 + 1080

First off you should get atleast a 700w PSU but other then that it looks good. Any reason your buying a pro instead of a home license key? I would spend more on the case too, seems disrespectful putting such amazing components in a $40 case lol.

Poor PSU quality, either K CPU or non Z170 motherboard, cheap case and don't buy a founders edition as the aftermarket versions will run cooler, faster and are cheaper. You can also go with the 850 EVO 250gb for OS and a game or 2 with longer loading screens and buy a 1TB driver for other games/storage.

Also why Win10 Pro? With the savings of changing a few parts you can build a much better balanced build with better quality parts.

I added the Asus Z170/Aura board and paired it with the otherwise slightly overpriced STRIX for looks (both support ASUS Aura feature)
went with a better and easier to mount CPU cooler

basically the same as the above i5 build but with a variation in mainboard & 1080 (&PSU, missclicked above, the GS is fine, so is the G2 although it's slightly favoured but pretty on par tbh)

took a nice high end B150 board which really lacks nothing compared to the Z170 (apart from the specifics of the Z170 chip)
you can scrap the cooler all together as it comes with a (rather noisy) stock cooler
you can go easier on the PSU there, downgrade to 550W without a problem

if you're not running a 2k/4k screen but rather a 1080p screen, a 1080 is a waste of money.
pick one of these 1070s instead:

Gigabyte G1
Zotac AMP!
ASUS Strix
MSI Gaming X
Zotac AMP Extreme

personally I'd also like a nicer case if you can spare the money.
you can get a Thermaltake F31 Suppressor for 75$ these days which comes with good airflow, plenty of space and quality sound dampening
the very stylish and high grade Phanteks Enthoo Pro M /tempered glass for below 70$
and NZXT's Phantom 410 is around the same price
but you know, that's just personal preference
