GTX 1080 or wait for GTX 1080ti for 3440x1440

Hi guys,

So I recently purchased a Predator X34 from a friend and am planning on updating my GPU. I understand this monitor can be OC'ed to 100hz but I am not even sure the GTX 1080ti will be achieve that FPS at this resolution. Currently, it appears that the GTX 1080 can handle most games at 60fps but do you guys think it would be better to just wait for the GTX 1080ti for more future proofing at this resolution? It's slated to be released in about a month so the wait isn't too terribly long. On the other hand, perhaps the 1080's price will also drop once the 1080ti is released. What would you guys do?

Well i recently got the MSI GTX 1080 and even when overclocked at ultra on BF1 i can dips as low as 65fps on 1440p 144hz Gsync, average 70-80 and the highest being 110.

There are older games i have that came out a while back like the original dishonored and bioshock infinite for example and they pretty much max at 120-144 fps 1440p.

Well Overwatch plays near 144fps if you turn SMAA to medium and everything else ultra but with most modern AAA games it actually stuggles which isnt nice as its meant to be the most powerful consumer grade GPU out at the moment for us bob standard buyers of GPU's (we are avoiding the titans has a high percent can not afford one)

Mines is the standard 2560-1440p and if the card struggles on this what...

The monitor I purchased has g-sync and I would be wasting that feature if I decided to go AMD; though, I am sure the new AMD cards are gonna be beasts.

Its a good card but not as powerful as everyone thought it to be. This isnt going to max every game on a 144hz monitor (1080p maybe).

If you have the cash fine go for it but please do accept you will drop frames and you will have to get use to the variable framerate.

Not sure what you expected. Playing 1440p at 144fps takes the same processing power as 4k at 60fps. NO card to date has been able to max out most games at 4k at 60+fps. To get 60fps at 4k fully maxed out you need two GTX 1080's, and the same would go for any game at 1440p at 144+fps. It's a good card (the second fastest card to date), but you have to realize that it is much easier to make a monitor that runs at 144hz than to make a card that can create all the frames for it. What I'm saying is that, while displays are getting higher and higher resolutions very quickly, GPU's aren't getting the performance increase to catch up to them, causing people to be unreasonably disappointed at the cards.
