Hey guys,

so like the title says, I'm about to kick off my very first desktop build.. I'm trying to keep the cost as low as possible whilst maintaining the performance that I need now, and for the near future. I don't want to build again for at least 3-5 years.

I'll give you guys a little background of what I plan on doing with the PC, and then I'll let you know what components I've chosen so far! (I'm absolutely open to suggestions, and if a component isn't compatible with the others please let me know)

Plans/Use
I'm a competitive gamer, so I need something that will run tripple-A titles at high FPS.
Also, it needs to be able to record smooth, quality gameplay
I watch a lot of movies, so it has to be HD.
I'm in school for Architecture, so I have to be able to model various things at once.
I want to be able to connect to 5.0Ghz WiFi. (although I'm usually wired).
Edit videos, etc..
It also needs LAN capabilities. (if there's such thing).
I plan on messing around with VR once it develops a little bit further.
Bluetooth would be nice so I can connect to my smart TV from another room.
Lastly, it just needs to be lightning fast. I can't stand waiting for things to load.

Components so far
I've read soooo many CPU reviews, and I'm between these:
Intel Core i3-6100
Intel Core i5-6500

I'm worried that the i3 only has a dual core, and the i5 is above my intended budget.

GPU:
Radeon RX 460
Geforce GTX 1050 Ti

I heard that for VR, the GTX 10 series is perfect. And considering it's only an extra 40$CAN, I was leaning towards buying that one instead of the RX 460.

MONITOR:
BenQ RL2455HM 24"

Mouse:
Logitech G900

All help is appreciated guys!! I got lost once I started looking at motherboards x.x

You're right. Also, most games are played on lowest settings as it's easier to see the target w/o texture distraction. When I say competitive, I don't mean that I get paid to play - not yet at least. I'm trying to step up to that level of competition though. On my down time I enjoy playing visually demanding games to relax, editing videos, and 3D modelling.

Ideally I would like to put together 2-3 builds. Each at different price ranges. Min. 500$. Max. 1200$.

I will buy as soon as I have 2-3 solid builds to compare, and I am certain. Very soon hopefully.

Keep in mind that I'm Canadian.
