Hi I have a gamig PC that is 4 years old, and I'm itching to upgrade some parts.

It consists of:
465W PSU
ASRock 960GM-GS3 FX
8GB,2x4gb DDR3 1333mhz Ram
GTX740 SSC Single slot
Toshiba 1TB Hard drive
AMD FX-4100 @ 3.7ghz

I ordered a GTX1060 SSC 6GB, to replace the GTX740 SSC, which replaced the original GT610.

I also want to upgrade my processor and possibly my mother board, if required (although I'd would like to keep AM3[+]).

I was hoping I didn't have to upgrade my PSU if I didn't have to.

Solution
Exactly what psu is it? I recommend something more similar to the RX460 or GTX1050 for a video card upgrade unless you can afford to upgrade the cpu and motherboard too. I also HIGHLY recommend against keeping or "upgrading" to another AM3+ motherboard. They are old. If you're going to upgrade, do it right and get something newer and better.

Of course you could update your BIOS and drop in a FX6300 pretty easily. That would be an improvement over your FX4100.
