Will a i5 hold me back on FPS at 4K with a GTX1080?

Solution
unless the game your playing is a well known CPU resource hog then no an i5 6600k should not have trouble at 4K with a GTX 1080 bottleneck wise (the GTX 1080 may well have issues though, I run 2 of them for 4K and still can't max every game out that supports SLI or otherwise). Not everyone posting here missed this ( a lot did though). People tend to forget the higher the resolution the less CPU horse power you need to drive it, especially if you're vsync'd at 60fps or not gaming at 90-100+ FPS. Whatever your CPU can crank out with a game set to the lowest graphical settings and resolution, it can do at any resolution, assuming of course your GPU can keep up. At 4K your GPU will be the problem more times then not. Granted there are some...

Yea, it will in comparison to an i7 but the 1080 isn't really the best for 4k tbh I'd wait until the 1080ti/vega cards come out to have a serious 4k setup.

hmm for 60Fps + U Need i7 Like i7 6700k Skylake ( U Need z Series Mobo ) Or 5960x Haswell

but for example for BF1 u will get 45/50 fps on ultra with this settings on 4k/ultra hd In Best Oc Mode (cpu And gpu oc about 20% )

But Ur Mobo Doesnt Support Cpu Oc Unfortunately

Go For z Series Of mobo For Oc

Nah its not bs, it' s just that
1.) That most likely wasn't on maxed out settings
2.) If you want to run other games than bf1, newer games etc, the 1080 isn't going to always get 60fps.
If you only are interested in bf1/cod, then the i5 and 1080 should be fine.

At 4K, you're GPU bound, not CPU bound, so while you may get a couple more FPS from an i7, it won't be enough to be worth the cost difference. Yeah, a 1080 is great, but you're still pushing it to its limits with 4K in any newer AAA title.

Now, if you were running SLI 1080's, it would be a different story.

Higher resolutions makes virtually no difference to CPU load. An i5 6600k would do very well at at 4k 60Hz/fps. However in extreme cases (BF1) an i7 does show benefit.

I'd say an i5 6600k is enough but if you have the money for a 4k setup the extra cost between an i5 & i7 is negligible so why not just get the i7 which will occasionally perform better.

Granted there are some games that are very CPU heavy (BF1 for example) and in those you may see a bottleneck but again at 4K this will not be a common issue with an i5 6600k. I would not stress your CPU with a GTX 1080 in the slightest
