I have read through the manual and both the built in M.2 and the expansion card specifically state "Support PCIe SSD only." But then I have noticed here a number of threads of people installing M.2 with NVMe. But I haven't seen a follow up to the posts if the NVMe drives are getting their full throughput. Does the NVMe work but just not get the full throughput benefit or is the manual outdated? Thanks for any help you can provide.

Depends on which slot you put the adapter in. The adapter itself is 4 lanes of pcie so it is capable of getting full speed from a pcie gen3 nvme drive.
Keep in mind that with X99 the number of pcie3 lanes you have is determined by which cpu you have, not the motherbd.

Do you know if the M.2 slot supports nvme? When its possible, i dont wont to use the adapter für the PCIe slot. The manual says only, that U.2 have NVME.

Edit: I see it does support VNME, the driver in Windows is installd and in use
