Currently installed is the GTX 260 which is getting long in the tooth and I was thinking of upgrading to the GTX 1070. I have already replaced the hard drive & upgraded the RAM (eventually replace the motherboard when it dies). I want to double check that the 1070 is a viable solution.

Aura DVLR VH1 (Dec 15/2009)
Intel i7 960 3.2 GHz/Intel X58 Express
PCI Express X1 (2) 36 pin connector
PCI Express X16 (2) graphics card/(2) 164 connect
(6) DDR3 DIMM sockets

Motherboard Alienware OH869M
(2)PCI Express 2.0, PCI-e x16
(2)PCI - e X1

My 1070 has an 8pin power connection. I think the PSU should have that if it support a gtx 260. That would be my only concern. I think if you look at the bottlenecking guide you'll find that the CPU is going to be a bit of a problem. Even 3rd gen i7s are not fully up to the task of a 1070. So that is something to consider.
