FPS problems in Forza Horizon 3

Heyho! Recently bought myself a 8320 and an ASUS Strix 1060 6GB, was looking forward to playing all these new games on high settings with decent FPS. Installed the parts, booted up, did a little overclocking on the CPU (sitting stable at 4.3Ghz) and started Forza, maxed everything and got disappointed. Sat at around 30-40 fps and decided to lower the settings to high, restarted the game and realized the fps was exactly the same. At that moment I was like "wtf is going on?". So I lowered the settings even more, this time to medium and exactly the same fps as before, started to get really annoyed and came here for help :(

Specs:
Mobo: Asus M5A78L (By now I know this doesn't have the power for an 8320, therefore I only use 4 cores instead)
CPU: FX-8320 @4.3Ghz
GPU: Asus Strix 1060 6GB OC
RAM: 16GB Corsair 1333Mhz
Storage:
1x 500GB HDD
1x 1TB HDD
1x Samsung 850 EVO 250GB

Please help me, this is getting really frustrating :(

What should I do then?

If i7 870 at 2,93 can do 50-60 fps with RX480, as in one of the posts- sure 4 cores of 8320 at 4.3GHz are more powerful and should perform better.
Anyway, I'd try even lower CPU clock, say 3GHz, to see if performance drops. Also, make sure image quality 'dynamic' setting in the game is off, as it drops image quality to keep game at 30-40fps.

Dynamic setting is off, I shall try your tip there, coming back with a reply soon

You can't compare GHz like that. Modern Intel's can do about twice the work per clock cycle of the FX8xxx, ok that's an older Intel but Id still expect its cores although lower clocked to be significantly more powerful.

Exactly.

This is whty an i3 usually bests the AMD offerings.

Not necessarily, the fx 8320 is roughly equal to i7 870 in terms of raw power at 4 cores.

It could be the motherboard not being powerful enough for the CPU, regardless of cores available.

This may be a dumb question but did you turn off the "30 FPS max" (or whatever it's called) in the games settings? I just bought Forza Horizons 3 and GTA V to push my new gaming rig and I know one of those games has a setting that defaults the FPS to 30. And I'm pretty sure it's Forza.

It's set on Unlocked so that's not the problem :)

Then problem is your motherboard throttling that CPU no matter whether you have 4 cores disabled or not.

I have no idea what you were thinking buying an 8 core knowing full well the board doesn't support it properly if at all.

Buy a decent motherboard.

It's not throttling though? 100% on all cores and they run at 3Ghz constantly. And I didn't know about the mobo+cpu thing before I bought it.

Bought both the GPU and CPU last week

MERGED QUESTION
Question from Bamse : "FPS Problems in several games"

Is your cpu hope 4ghz or is it dropping? That motherboard is not a good choice for that cpu, the VRM's often overheat and throttle the cpu. You really can't overclock on that motherboard.

Also what are your core usages? In games like Cs Go that can't use multiple cpu cores/threads you will see no gain over the 6300 as the extra cores go unused.

Bought the Enzotech MOS-C10's and that fixed the v-drooping. The cpu runs at 4Ghz when in game at all times. CPU usage in GTA hovers around 40-50% while GPU usage is around 30-35%.

What is the actual exact board model ??
If its the m/usb3 with the 4+1 power phase (the same one as I use)

Then you want to be locking off at 6 cores between 3.5-3.8ghz.

That's where you're going to get your overall best performance ratio .

How are you locking the cores off at the moment ??
In bios ??

It's the M5A78L with the 3+1 power phase.

Fx 8320 is more than capable to play forza horizon 3... I have the same Cpu paired with Rx480 and even on ultra the cpu remains at 80%. the game clearly lacks optimization from the devs end.
