So I have a gaming computer which is:
8 gig ram DDR3
Gtx 750 1gb
Amd apu a6 6400k
(Should be enough details)

I decided to get upgrades. I was going to buy a new graphics card. But then I realized that my CPU was shit so I was looking for a good one. I had an amd Mobo so I research the best one which was the fx 8350. Then I noticed that the intel processors were a lot stronger than the amd cpu's. So I got an intel mobo and a intel CPU. I then realized that the motherboard I got only supported DDR4 ram. I had DDR3 ram in my pc. So I had to order DDR4 ram.

A two part upgrade basically turned into a new build because the only thing I will move to my new pc is the harddrive and my external harddrive.

Now I am wondering if me buying these specs were the right decision for a 400-600 budget.

New specs:
8 gig ram fury hyper x DDR4 ram
Intel i5 6500

my view is 'whichever one is cheapest from a reputable company' - the actual differences between brands on the same hardware is not that significant (2-3 fps depending on stock clock speeds, at best)

Asus, XFX, Zotac, EVGA, Gigabyte, Sapphire are always reliable, MSI slightly less, then its weaker quality brands

Well, in total it was like $560ish. Then with the shipping and handling it was a total of $579. It is for my Christmas present. But I could've maxed out my build but my Parents doesn't like it when all my presents are for computer parts. So they gave me a limit to spend for computer parts and the rest they wanted to buy me clothes and normal stuff.

Hmm is this all you bought ?? or soemthing else price wise shoudla been around 350ish

Me, I'd go for a GTX1060 6Gb card for now and hold off on the CPU/MB/RAM upgrade, yes the bigger GPU will be held back by the current setup but a GTX750 1Gb card is a savage restriction at virtually any resolution.
Consider adding a SATA 2.5" SSD into the equation as well, just adding a 120Gb device for boot and a few select games/applications will greatly improve overall responsiveness, just be aware that migrating your OS and programs WILL take some time and you should update your system BIOS before hand.

Okay, I was looking at my orders and saw that i could stretch $50-75. The motherboard and the GPU were still waiting for shipment. So i decided to buy a 1060 3gb. BUT WHICH ONE?? ASUS, EVGA, GIGABYTE???
