Specs :

- AMD Athlon 860K 3.7ghz (Coolermaster TX3 Evo)
- 8GB DDR3 RAM
- MSI GTX 960 Gaming 2G 2GB
- 120GB SSD
- 250GB HDD
- 500W PSU

Okay so in july I bought the parts for my first ever PC Build and as i was on a budget I bought a AMD Chipset I also bought an aftermarket cooler as people said the AMD coolers were rubbish so I purchased the Coolermaster TX3 evo. Fast Forward to a couple weeks ago I bought GTA on pc and long story short I found out that my CPU was causing a bottleneck so I decided to Overclock the CPU so i followed a youtube tutorial and it went wrong my pc crashed when it booted in to windows to i went back into the bios and hit the reset tab hoping it would all go back to normal and it did however i started noticing the temps were not back to normal and they were skyrocketing at idle it was anywhere from 60C-80C and then I played fallout and noticed the temps were well over 90C when i was gaming. Here is a list of things i have tried to get the temps down

1) Re-apply thermal paste
2) Added a New and better case fan
3) Cable Managed to provide better airflow in the case

What can I do to get the temps down to a normal level is there anything that could have went wrong in the bios when I had my failed attempt to overclock I only changed the setting that said Clock speed and then changed it back as soon as it went wrong also Can i get my fan on my cooler to run faster? Please help I really dont want my first PC to die so early

I didnt apply loads or to little I followed a guideline the dot the size of a pea

Faulty Core Sensor. Your CPU probably crashed because of instability, not temperature.

Your motherboard should have a socket sensor, that is probably a more accurate representation of your temperature.

The 860k is known to give false readings.

How do I check the readings from my motherboard instead of the one from the 860K?

How were you checking your CPU temp? Should be the same. HW Monitor should show them, there are a few proves in the mobo so you may need to figure out which one is your CPU socket, versus your north bridge, etc. But your motherboard for sure has sensors and HW Monitor should show them.

Ok so I just downloaded both HwMonitor and Open Hardware Monitor and both of them show completely different readings HW shows 70C which is consistent with the readings i saw in the bios however Open Hardware Monitor shows the temps at 25-35C Im so confused

I have the same processor and I found Core Temp was the only software that gave the most accurate readings with AMD CPU's. Mine jumps around from 30-50 depending on load. Never goes above 60 using the stock cooler and stock thermal compound.
