Help me upgrade to play TotalWar better

My machine is a good 5 years old. Just started playing Total Warhammer and I am really loving it but the lag is a bit hard to deal with.

Can I just upgrade my video card or do I need to make more drastic changes?
Here is my build:
Intel i5 2500k @ 3.30
16 GB ram
GTX 560 Ti

What are the rest of your system specs? You should be able to run the game at a decent framerate (not on ultra) but you should be running the game on low-med no problem.

Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2500K CPU @ 3.30GHz - 7.6
Memory (RAM) 16.0 GB - 7.8
Graphics NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Ti - 6.9
Gaming graphics 4095 MB Total available graphics memory - 6.9
Primary hard disk 14GB Free (279GB Total) - 5.9

Guess I should get a new hd as well. What will give me the best boost to gaming?

I do run the game on medium but still the lag when moving around the map is a bit annoying. When I start it gives me a graphics memory warning and says its downgrading so I can play.

I might try low then. The game might, even on low, use more than 1GB of VRam at 1080p.

Motherboard would be useful. As would the power supply. You haven't overclocked your CPU, so that's a place to start so that won't be as much an issue.
Your GPU could do with an upgrade as well. Cheap route would be a 1050 or 1050Ti.
