I have an older Compaq (HP) SR5237CL desktop which came with Vista but I updated it to Windows 10. My problem is that I cannot update the video driver. I used to have 1680 X 1050 screen resolution but now the only choices I have are 1600 X 1200, 1400 X 1050, or 1280 X 1024. My monitor says it is running at 1680 X 1050 but with the software running at a different resolution the picture is blurry.

I even went to the HP site and tried to install the driver but whether I try the 32 or 64 bit drivers, the installation fails and says, "Your system does not meet the minimum requirements for this update. Update has been cancelled (99998).

Windows shows that the current driver is Microsoft Basic Display Adapter. My CPU is a AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+. HWINFO 64 shows the gpu as a Nvidia nForce 6150 SE (6100-430). I tried using the driver installation from Nvidia but it showed that my system was not updated. When I first updated to Windows 10, All the drivers were OK. I decided to do a clean install of Windows 10 because I want to donate this computer to our local orphanage. Now the drivers can't be updated. Please help me figure this out.

should of looked before you leaped before going to the malware call windows 10 ? you must not like orphans ?? I would have to hate someones guts to recommend 10 to them on anything less then skylake and then your trapped in to it [opinion]

best thing to do now it hope Linux would work on that near obsolete prebuilt

try a live dvd and see how well it boots and gets to desktop ''BEFORE'' you install it on a hard drive

You can download the Linux Mint operating system for free. It comes as an ISO file
which you need to burn to a blank DVD. The liveDVD is then bootable and provides a
fully-functional operating system which you can try without affecting your PC. In
layman's terms, when you put Linux Mint on a DVD and place it into your computer, you
can try it out while leaving your current system intact.

The old setup of Windows 10 was working beautifully but wanted the clean install to make sure all my old files were gone. I like Windows 10 and would like to keep it so I am still looking for other suggestions. I read you link to the Nvidia site saying that they aren't compatible but I know for a fact that it was working up until the clean install.

ya, just that old stuff get left behind and I'm no fan of windows 10 its just bad news in my opinion.

if that Linux works it takes a little learning curve that may benefit a kid to learn more on programing instead of lazy point and click as with windows

I wish some one turned my on to Linux early . being open source a kid can learn to go in to add to change , make his own programs and best part for them is 99% all for free

look some over plenty for them to play with and use
